Frequently asked questions

what whanau want to know...

What is the adult to child ratio?

In early childhood education, a ratio is used to mean the number of children there are to each adult educator.

At Hannah's, we strive to offer a low teacher ratio. Our ratio for the under two's area is 1:3 (1 teacher for every 3 children). Our ratio for the over two's areas is 1:7.

Do you provide meals?

Morning tea is provided fresh daily by Hannah's House. Families provide lunch and afternoon tea for their child.

We value the comfort, nutrition, cultural connection, and variety that only home prepared lunches bring. We also believe mealtimes are an important part of growing independence and school readiness, as children learn to manage their lunch boxes, water bottles, and self-help routines with confidence.

Our home-like approach allows tamariki to enjoy familiar foods from home while sharing relaxed mealtimes together with friends.

Are nappies or formula provided by the centre?

No, we do not provide nappies or formula although our centre does provide biodegradable wipes and freshwater as well as a reapplication of sunscreen during the child's stay. We encourage parents to apply the first layer of sunscreen prior to drop-off.

How do I apply for ECE funding?

The process is quite seamless for the parents.

If your child is 3 years old or over, you can benefit from the government subsidy of 20 hours paid early learning education.

We will take care of the forms to fill out and send to you for signature. You may contact us for further information on the process.

What is the transition/settling in process?

We provide a gentle approach to settling and transitions to/from and within the centre.

We understand that starting childcare is often one of the very first major transitions in a child's life.

At Hannah's House we provide flexible, free settling visits that are guided by the individual child - not a fixed number of sessions. Parents are welcome to stay during early visits, and for babies this may include feeds, cuddles, sleep routines, and gradual familiarisation with kaiako and the environment.

Some children settle quickly, while others need more time. We work alongside families to ensure transitions feel calm, respectful, and successful for both children and parents.

We believe strong beginnings help create secure, confident learners going forward.
